The athlete recorded her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in London.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the global championships recently, excelled in an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot again in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this year so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only event packed the stadium in its second year, introducing a festive vibe to traditional track, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to present the victors with their tiaras.

Previous champions received $60,000 (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
