Football Roundup: Broncos Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Affair
During a defensive struggle on Sunday, the Broncos clinched a 13-11 victory over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to secure the hard-fought win.
Dominant Performance Seals Contest
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after conceding a two-point play in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the entire game.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes remaining.
Record Difficulties for Jets Attack
In spite of their dismal offensive display, the Jets maintained possession with a chance to score a possible winning score. But Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than sending out kicker Nick Folk for a long kick.
Fields struggled all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York ended up with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," the coach stated after the game.
